Can't get track to preview
Hi,
In order to correct a small mistake in an Aston I have deleted two assets in a DVD Studio pro v 4.2.1 project and replaced them with the corrected version as exactly similarly named tracks exported from Compressor as encoded DVD mpeg and dolby audio. Now however the track won't play and just comes up as a solid green track in the graphic window with no preview. I have tried deleting all other exactly name tracks on the drives and even renaming the files and then reimporting them - it's still not working and very frustrating (wasted two hours so far). Any thoughts gratefully appreciated!

I've done the same thing and the only way I've found is to start over with a new menu and rebuild everything. I hope someone else has a better idea for you though.

Re: Can't get track to preview
Martin - nice to know it isn't just me!
In the end I did not change the project but did resend the file to Compressor with a completely different name - even though they were the essentially the same files as before minus one very small change. This newly generated file worked in DVD SP as expected and the problem was solved.
I do note however that this is the sort of user unfriendly thing that DVD SP does - I think it is done with the intention of stopping you burning a disc when the asset is not available but has these awful side effects of not allowing replaced tracks to play.
This sort of thing is the software equivalent of sticking your foot out to trip people up and does not endear us to the DVD SP software, possibly contributing to its lack of continuing development and I assume Apple's abandoning of the software all together, in favour of iDVD or perhaps producing a whole new DVD authoring package.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!
Re: Can't get track to preview
Kitti, sorry to read about your problem, but I think you are barking up the wrong tree. I relink media in DVD SP. I replace tracks in DVD SP all the time. The auto refresh of assets works very well for me. In fact, I have just spent a considerable amount of time trying to break it, with no luck. I can even relink to an asset that does not share the same characteristics as the original with no failure.
The problem was likely the file you created, or the drive it was on. In FCP a green screen in the Viewer / Canvas indicates there is a problem reading the media. Likely means the same in DVD SP.
I highly recommend the Peach Pit Press DVD SP training manual.
