I should have done that, thanks for the heads up Frank. I worked for 35 years in local television mostly shooting news video (some film as well). After early retirement I started my own company, purchasing a camera and getting Final Cut Studio. As a shooter I have excellent skills and knowledge how to shoot and light etc. As an editor with FCP I would say that I am a novice, I know what it should look like, but getting there takes me a while. I have taken courses, both classroom and online, as well as reading etc. My main interest is keep getting better and more comfortable with FCP and to provide my clients with the best quality I can give them.

Duane kindly let me know about this forum and I am very glad he did.

Maker of simple videos in a small hamlet

Your experience is very welcome here. Keep in mind that we have sections where you can share you experience behind a camera and help others with their questions. Just because you're new to the forum doesn't mean that you shouldn't answer a question that you have expertise in.

A topic of interest for me that you could start a post on is what new camera under $3000 is the best for event shooting.

Thanks Rob for that information. Now one has a better picture of what is your strength and wanting to get better at.
What format of film did you work at?. What do you find difficult in FCP to understand? or are you like me there are so many functions one has to remember to make once editing flow without stopping and thinking how does one do this task.
Well we hope you will be able to help on this forum. Beware Duane does at times bark very loud and for good reasons.
He has put me in my place at times and i did learn from his bark.
In general we all get on fine here and at times we have a good laugh. Other members also post some good material.

I worked with 16mm on the old CP-16's, they were basically build for news use and were a great camera. You can see where the body design and function were used as a template for the ENG cameras that followed. Specifically the Beta-Cam series from Sony. I now use a Sony XDCAM HD EX-1R for my business, a very good camera for its price, $8000.00 CDN approximately.

For something around $3000.00 Martin I have heard very good things about the JVC GY-HM100U ProHD Camcorder. It works very well with FCP as this link I will provide below speaks too. One thing though I have found that I do not like much with my camera and others of that genre, is the viewfinder/monitor. You do not find really good ones till you jump up into the more expensive models of camera.
